If you have been following this blog for a while, you know that I launched it way back in the swinging sixties of internet years, 2006, when I was general manager of Opus Hotel.
After I left Opus to write mystery novels, the blog moved to my own Daniel Edward Craig domain and became a platform for shamelessly plugging my books. In recent years, as I’ve been building my consulting business, it’s taken a decidedly more corporate turn.
Today this blog reinvents itself once again under the moniker of my new company, Reknown (pronounced “renown”).
To go from hotel manager to mystery author to marketing consultant might seem like a circuitous (some might say flaky) path, but there has been method to the madness.
Though my mystery-writing days are over, I find it intriguing how social media has transformed travelers into private detectives. They arrive at the doors of businesses and scrutinize everything, take notes, snap photos and interrogate witnesses, and then publish their findings to review sites and social networks.
As a former hotel manager I know how embarrassing it can be if they find incriminating evidence—and simply bad for business. And how fantastic it is when they find us guilty of only one thing: running a great business.
As an author I too have felt the sting of bad reviews and the thrill of glowing reviews. And I understand the power of storytelling and the unprecedented platforms and audiences social media provides for sharing stories.
And lastly, as a consultant I see how critical it is for businesses to adapt to changes in how consumers research purchases, make decisions and share experiences.
“Owning your reputation” means managing your business online and offline: building awareness and trust online with engaging, accurate and helpful content; and driving customer satisfaction—and, in turn, revenue, loyalty and advocacy—by exceeding expectations and using feedback to guide improvements.
Technology and consumer behavior are evolving at such a dizzying speed we’re making the rules up as we go along. In this blog I’ll continue to share tools, trends and best practices from the industry to help hotels and travel businesses worldwide understand, adapt to and thrive in this ever-changing landscape.
I hope you’ll join me for the next leg of this journey, as we let curiosity, integrity and the pursuit of excellence be our guides.
– Daniel Craig

Very exciting as the next chapter begins in your dynamic career. All the best!
Congratulations on embarking on the next chapter. This is so exciting. Your intro post resonates with me as I am the ambassador of the “Power of the Internet and Relationships” at my hotel. No, that is not my official title – it didn’t fit on a name tag. 🙂 Best of luck and I look forward to reading.
Thanks Barb! Wow, that’s quite a title – and it speaks volumes. I think you should insist on everyone addressing you accordingly.
I just might. It sounds like fun and much more interesting (conversation provoking at least) than my current title. I’ll just need a name billboard instead of tag.
Thanks for the support, everyone!
Congratulations….looking forward to the new exciting stuff
